I was born between the horizon And the sky, with no-one to tell me why She said, if we’re unacceptable anywhere We’re unacceptable everywhere So she ran, she ran, she ran anywhere The tallest buildings in the world will give us all shadows that we need to waste our days And the asteroid had nothing on your war on terror-dactyls when you take the sun away Whoah-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh oh-oh Whoah-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh oh-oh And I’ll spend my life chasing the sunshine And I’ll spend my time defending the last of the sky I can’t deny that I’ve got no answer For the jaded communities, airfix democracies While we’re trying to grow crops 8 miles high She said, if we’re unacceptable anywhere We’re unacceptable everywhere So she ran, she ran, she ran and she jumped from The tallest buildings in the world will give us all shadows that we need to waste our days And the asteroid had nothing on your war on terror-dactyls when you take the sun away Whoah-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh oh-oh Whoah-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh oh-oh And I’ll spend my life chasing the sunshine And I’ll spend my time defending the last of the sky And I’ll spend my time defending the last of the sky Take the sun away, and we’ll die inside Take the sun away

I know what you’re here for The wisdom of the traveller in blazing sunsets But you won’t find it here no You won’t find it now if you don’t know what it is yet And I’ll tell you how, I’ll tell you how to live Without fear of the past or the future And I’ll tell you now, I’ll tell you now To live without scars is to paint with water And I will be your friend, and I will take my time Tell you all the things that you shouldn’t have to hide And I will be your friend, and I will take my time I can see by the lighthouse All of the regrets and the scars that are mine I can see by the lighthouse Out across the sea, for what feels like the last time I can see by the lighthouse To live without scars is to paint with water I can see by the lighthouse Hold onto your regrets, they’re what make us who we are The sex that I paid for Sometimes you have to cross the line to know where it is now And the scars that I made myself Sometimes you have to draw a map if nobody else will And I’ll tell you how, I’ll tell you how to live Take your youth and please never waste it ‘Cos all I have to offer you now are my scars, and the view across the Atlantic And I will be your friend, and I will take my time Tell you all the things that you shouldn’t have to hide And I will be your friend, and I will take my time I can see by the lighthouse All of the regrets and the scars that are mine I can see by the lighthouse Out across the sea, for what feels like the last time I can see by the lighthouse To live without scars is to paint with water I can see by the lighthouse Hold onto your regrets, and the crazy times we’ve had

By the lion enclosure, I wanna expose ya I wanna get closer, before your life will be over Just remember that it’s It’s in na-na-nee-na-na It’s in na-na-nee-na-na… It’s inevitable, one day they’ll have us up against the wall It’s inevitable, one day the animals reject their names They’ve had enough today They wanna live with their own names They’re on the streets today By the elephant enclosure, they’re ferocious and older They’re angry and they remember, all the days of your slaughter Just remember that it’s! It’s in na-na-nee-na-na It’s in na-na-nee-na-na… It’s inevitable, one day they’ll have us up against the wall It’s inevitable, one day the animals reject their names They’ve had enough today They wanna live with their own names They’re on the streets today

In the future, nobody is older In the future, everybody always looks young In the future, everybody’s hot forever In the future, everybody’s song gets sung Tell me why, nothing ever turns out like we write, in space age or sci-fi Tell me why, we all think it’s gonna be fine We could like in a world where people take video with their eyes But we might find that we would never have the time To be free, to be free The future’s what you want it to be The future’s what you want it to be In the future, our energy comes from water In the future, everybody lives on the moon In the future, there’s shiny robots that cure cancer But I don’t think, the future’s any time too soon Tell me why, nothing ever turns out like we write, it’s the future but not quite There’s no dolphins who travel through time We could like in a world where people take video with their eyes But we might find that we would never have the time To be free, to be free The future’s what you want it to be The future’s what you want it to be Take your science and technology, is that what you want it to be Superstition and plastic surgery, is that what you want it to be Success at any cost, or do you want to live a life with balance Time accepts no apologies The future’s what you want it to be The future’s what you want it to be

I went on a voyage, in search of some credibility But all I found was the greasy underbelly of the global economy They send out their hired guns, lay a trail for the middle class But I see through this, to all the future tourists in Iraq I don’t believe a thing you say I don’t believe it The tsunami, the tank and the barcode Forget everything you’ve been told We were always on our own The tsunami, the tank and the barcode They left you in the cold We were always on our own This is for all the corporate campfires, where we sit around and sing Jack Johnson And the arrogant wankers, who come home with genuine Thai Coca-cola clothes on All your tourist dollars go back home All your tourist dollars go back home All your tourist dollars go back home All your tourist dollars go home [ Chorus ] I’m a tourist with blood on my shoulders I’m a tourist with blood on my shoulders Your tsunami dollars go back home They’re mismanaged by governments that you know Your tsunami dollars go back home So all you tourists, why don’t you go home? [ Chorus ] I’m a tourist with blood on my shoulders, can you take it can you fake it and I told you so I’m a tourist with blood on my shoulders, can you take it can you fake it and I told you so I’m a tourist with blood on my shoulders, can you take it can you fake it and I told you so I’m a tourist with blood on my shoulders [ Chorus ]

This is a story about personal failure I don’t mean to deceive you But I’ve been working all this time, now it’s hard to believe ya So it’s time for me to leave you Years go by, years go by Nothing happens, surrounded by zombies that don’t ask why Years go by, years go by So what’s the point of being a thorn in their side What if it all just took too long? And everything you needed was gone And everything you said was always powerless and meaningless and all the time, you lost your life So, what did you find? Wasting all the days wishing you could rewind I think you’re beautiful and kind, but I never belonged on all those drunken nights Well, you know that I’ll be fine, I’ll leave you watching all the waves I’ll leave behind You know that time, has to be cruel to be kind If you believe that I think you’ll be surprised So how long, must someone hold on, you gave me nothing so bring it on! I’ve watched you climbing, claiming your success – drowning in your excess Days go by, days go by I’ve got a chance, to stop the clock, to stop the rot and get something done Days go by, days go by I tried to show you all the difference between happiness and blind fun But what if it all just took too long? And everything you needed was gone And everything you said was always powerless and meaningless And everything you said was always wrong And you cursed the very place that you’re from But I’ve got a chance this time, and I’m breaking out I’ll take it now and I might just get to live my life So, what did you find? Wasting all the days wishing you could rewind I think you’re beautiful and kind, but I never belonged on all those drunken nights Well, you know that I’ll be fine, I’ll leave you watching all the waves I’ll leave behind You know that time, has to be cruel to be kind If you believe that I think you’ll be surprised

about

Between 2007 and 2009, Jez made some acoustic recordings with Matthew Langley: producer, former bandmate, beard-wielding bassist in The Library Suits and captain of solo-project-turned-band Captain What.

Now these songs are finally released into the world, they offer a small glimpse into the early years of Jez's solo project after F451, as well as standing up as recordings in their own right.

The working title was "The Captain What acoustic sessions", but with time and light being common themes in these songs, it seemed an appropriate name.

Tracks 5 and 6 are from the original experimental recordings in early 2008 which Matt managed to pull together. Thanks for all of it mate!
